Aldous Huxley

Born in England on July 26,1894, Aldous Huxley was from a family of scientists. At age 14, Huxley lost his mother (Julia Arnold). Then at age 17, he partially lost his vision due to an illness. His blindness prevented him from becoming a doctor as well as a soldier during WWI. Once his eye sight recovered, he went to Oxford where he took his degree in English Literature.

He began his writing career as a journalist, and during that time period, he began writing poems, essays, and historical pieces. In 1916, he published his 1st collection of poems, The Burning Wheel. Most of Huxley's early works were writtin in Italy and southern France. Then in 1937, Huxley came to the United States. His later books were then written in New Mexico and California. Lastly, on November 22,1963, Huxley died in California.

Huxley's Brave New World is a sci-fi book. His background in science allows him to give his book a scientific twist to it. This books shows the extremes of technology, especially biotechnology. The downside of technology may be one of the themes of this story.

what was sickening?
there's a ton of stuff in that great book.

so here's my comment to your asignment:

Well i'm not surprised that the author studied in science/medicine because the book really shows it. All those chemicals and process of how babies are developed in tubes. Yup , biotech sure is handy. I bet biotech helped cure his partial blindness. Perhaps he incorporated the parentless society after his own loss of his mother. [Then again... you guys probably haven't read to the part about parents]. =P

sincerely-
